This Privacy Policy describes how Aaron Meslin (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information in connection with the iOS application Hit The Brakes (the “App”). By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy together with our Terms of Service.
1. What this policy covers
This policy applies to information processed in or through the App. It does not apply to websites or services operated by third parties (for example, Apple or ad networks), which have their own policies.
2. Information we process
Depending on how you use the App and your device settings, categories of information may include:
2.1 Information stored on your device
The App stores gameplay-related data locally on your device, such as high scores, preferences, cosmetic selections, and similar progress or settings. This data generally remains on your device unless you delete the App or clear app data through iOS.
2.2 Apple and Game Center
If you use Apple’s Game Center features (leaderboards, achievements, etc.), Apple processes identifiers and related account information under your Apple ID and Apple’s privacy policies. We receive limited information from Apple as needed to provide those features (for example, leaderboards or achievement state).
2.3 Advertising and measurement
The App may display advertisements provided by third-party networks (for example, Google AdMob). Ad partners may collect or use identifiers (such as device advertising identifiers where available), IP address, coarse location derived from IP, and related technical or usage data to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud, and improve performance. Whether certain tracking is collected may depend on your App Tracking Transparency choices (where applicable) and your device settings.
For details about Google’s advertising services, see Google’s policies and privacy documentation at policies.google.com.
2.4 Analytics (Firebase)
When the App is built with Firebase enabled, we may use Google Firebase (including Firebase Analytics) to understand aggregate usage—such as crashes, sessions, and feature usage—to improve stability and the player experience. Firebase processes identifiers and technical data under Google’s terms. See Firebase’s privacy support and Google’s privacy policies. If Firebase is not configured for your install, this category may not apply.
2.5 In-app purchases
Purchases are processed by Apple. We do not receive your full payment card details. Apple may provide us information about transactions (e.g., purchase status) as needed to unlock features such as “Remove ads.”
2.6 Support communications
If you contact us by email, we receive the information you provide (email address, message content, and any attachments) to respond to your request.
3. Apple App Privacy (App Store Connect)
Apple requires an App Privacy disclosure that matches real behavior. Section 2 describes what the App may process; use that and your SDK vendor settings when you complete the questionnaire. This summary is a guide only:
- Purchases (e.g. non-consumable “Remove ads”): typically Purchases for App Functionality, linked to the user through Apple; we do not use that purchase record for third-party tracking as Apple defines it unless you later change practices (update the policy if you do).
- Gameplay, scores, cosmetics, preferences on device: commonly Gameplay Content or related categories for App Functionality; linkage follows whether you tie data to Game Center or an account.
- Game Center: identifiers and gameplay-related items per Apple’s definitions for leaderboards/achievements; use Apple’s labels and their privacy documentation for platform-side processing.
- Advertising (e.g. Google AdMob): may include identifiers, usage data, or diagnostics for Third-Party Advertising and related purposes; Tracking may apply when a partner uses data for cross-app/website advertising under Apple’s rules—respect App Tracking Transparency and device settings.
- Analytics (e.g. Firebase Analytics, when enabled): commonly Usage Data / Diagnostics for Analytics (product improvement and stability). Declare what your SDKs actually collect in App Store Connect.
Update the questionnaire and this policy whenever you add SDKs, change ad networks, or change data practices.
4. How we use information
We use information to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the App and its features;
- Understand usage and diagnose issues with analytics tools (such as Firebase, where enabled);
- Deliver and measure advertising (where enabled);
- Provide in-app purchases and restore entitlements;
- Provide Game Center features (where enabled);
- Provide customer support and respond to inquiries;
- Protect the security and integrity of the App; and
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
5. Legal bases (EEA, UK, and similar)
If the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on appropriate legal bases such as: (a) performance of a contract (providing the App to you); (b) legitimate interests (securing the App, understanding usage in aggregate where appropriate, and supporting users), balanced against your rights; and (c) consent where required (for example, certain tracking or marketing choices on your device).
6. Sharing of information
We may share information with:
- Service providers that help us operate the App (for example, advertising and measurement partners), subject to contractual safeguards where appropriate;
- Apple, for App Store distribution, IAP, Game Center, and related platform services;
- Authorities, when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, others, or the App.
We do not sell your personal information for money as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
7. Retention
We retain information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, including legal, accounting, or security needs. Local device data is retained until you delete the App or data on your device. Support emails are retained as needed to communicate with you and resolve issues.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the App. No method of transmission or storage is guaranteed secure.
9. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Your choices and rights
Device settings: You can control certain data collection through iOS settings, including privacy settings, tracking permissions, and advertising controls (such as limiting ad tracking).
EEA/UK: You may have rights to access, rectify, delete, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability, subject to applicable law. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
California: California residents may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including requests to know, delete, and correct personal information, and rights related to certain sharing of personal information. Contact us to submit a request.
11. International transfers
If you use the App outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. We take steps designed to comply with applicable transfer requirements.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after the effective date may constitute acceptance of the updated policy, as permitted by law.
